Objective
The Peggy Rudd Transgender Scholarship Fund was created to recognize outstanding transgender students and to contribute toward their continuing education. HTUC recognizes that educational opportunities for students with minority gender identity orientation are worthy of our support.
Scholarship Description
The Houston Transgender Unity Committee offers two $1000 scholarships awards. Students chosen must maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA out of 4.0, or have substantial circumstances preventing minimum standards to assure continuing eligibility. Student must provide a transcript at the end of each academic school year (June) or notify HTUC detailing other circumstances.
Qualifications for Scholarship Award
The award of this scholarship is awarded to out transgender individuals and will be based on a combination of achievement in the areas of academic excellence, leadership, and extra-curricular activities, and on financial need. Applicants will be required to complete the attached forms and to provide an original essay. The essay will describe goals that the individual hopes to achieve in completing his or her university, college or vocational school education and in preparing for a productive career beyond formal education.
Selection Process
A panel of community members will review the applications and make preliminary selections for finalists based on their collective judgment of each applicant’s overall achievement and skill in presenting goals in essay form, as well as financial need. Finalists will be interviewed by the panel for the final selection.
